What is the difference between unity and udk

Plus I need compatibility this is what I am after, Unity would run on almost anything lol. Joined: Nov 1, Posts: 4, If your computer is not really beefy then I don't know if unreal will even run, whereas with unity it can mostly run on anything. If your doing a mobile game then unity is probably the way to go. Unitys asset store is way better and advanced compared to the unreal marketplace.

It seems to me that unreal 4 is pushing blueprint, so if your an artist I have to think that's going to be easier then trying to learn a c especially for non programmers. If your doing a big team project I think unreal is the way to go. Last edited: Aug 30, Aiursrage2k , Aug 30, Joined: Dec 27, Posts: 3, I recommend Unity! Because it's easy and intuitive, and best thing out there if you're a one man team. Great documentation and community. What more can you ask?

I personally do not see the need for anything higher than Unity simply because it will run fantastic on older PC and looks wonderful at the same time. So really graphics isn't everything, as a gamer I know this just look at League of Legends and world of warcraft.

The very latest graphics aren't necessary and it just places a burden on myself and anyone trying to run a game I would have built. Its true I may not be able to run Unity 5 but once this unity 4 will do for the next 3 years then I am good with that. Unity has very excellent documentation and layout just looking at it on this site is a joy!!! Joined: Oct 18, Posts: 1, I recommend unity also.

It allows you to make games via a tech that simplifies the complexities of building games by presenting those complexities in an easy to use all-in-one package.

The only downside is that unity free graphics look really poor compared to pro as can be seen in the following pics its somewhat heart breaking. WalkingDead , Aug 31, What you guys think? I had no idea free Unity was so poor in comparison to Pro. I must now beg the question are we allowed to use a pirated version of unity pro for non profit purposes or strictly for student use?

Other companies allow nearly full access to their software for non profit and student usage. Don't get me wrong the engine is fantastic for beginners and has a bright side of being free under k with no royalty unlike unreal engine.

But when one considers the work necessary to put into these games and you end up with a game that looks like vs one that looks it begs the question as to if this engine is still worth it. In Unreal Engine 4, the interface will be much improved, which will be nice. For better graphics such as realtime shadows and lightmapping with normal maps you can upgrade to Unity Pro. UDK has very nice physics. Use Actors to give meshes physics. The cloth sim is very nice, but my favorite is fracturing meshes.

Adding collision is simple and the ability to choose the complexity of your collision is a nice feature.

Unity3D also has great realistic physics. Softbodies, rigidbodies, colliders, and more are easily attached with components. Add a physic material to the collider to adjust the amount of friction and bounciness. Not as good cloth as Unreal yet. Plugins available on the Asset Store for fracturing, but no internal ability to fracture stuff inside Unity. In UDK, you can do basic scripting with the visual scripting system called Kismet.

Anything else you want to do will be done with uScript. There are also a few visual scripting solutions on the Asset Store, and one of them is free. Most devs use JavaScript though.

You can develop only on PC. When Unity 4 comes out, you will be able to publish to Linux as well. You can develop on PC and Mac. Unity can import pretty much import any type of 3d model, texture map, audio file, whatever.

FBX is the best file type to give Unity for 3D models. The import process is very easy. Just drag and drop your file from your regular file browser Windows Explorer onto the Project tab in the Unity Editor.

Also, whenever you make changes to a file in your project, such as making a brick texture more red inside of Photoshop, it will automatically update when you go back into Unity and you see the new redder brick. You can also import packages of unity files. UDK, however, is not so easy. It does not automatically refresh your assets, and when you import your assets, UDK imports them into a. So in your file browser, you might see weapons.

And UDK does not support as many file types. UDK has the Content Browser. Good way to be organized though. You can create an exciting game screen or a simple horizontal version of the game, and publish it to mobile platforms or next-generation platforms.

In fact, this is not accurate. Developers still use Unreal Engine 3 to make games that run on the previous generation gaming platforms, such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox still have a certain percentage of market share. Such a price structure is the gospel for those aspiring game developers! It has powerful image processing capabilities and can also be used in mobile games.

Unlike Unity, it has powerful level design tools in its game engine. Unreal Engine was originally developed for FPS. Epic developed it for the first Unreal a game , and after that, it was also used in many other types of games such as RPGs. UDK is completely free, unless you want to publish your game. If you don't need your game to have the image of Cow X like these games, then you better not choose it, but choose one easier.

So, which one is best for me? In the end, it is up to you to decide which is best for your project. But one thing is certain: for your game, these engines are enough to deal with. If you are still not sure choosing phobias The following courses can help you learn these engines. PS: Ah, why is forum editing more difficult than blog editing! So these game engines are a good choice.

Unreal Engine 4 has realistic image processing capabilities and is suitable for making simple horizontal game, and its price model is very reasonable.
