Who is eriol in cardcaptor sakura
She left Touya without warning, because "it was time," and what's there to stop her from doing it again? The fact that she pursued a relationship with her student is also a bit disturbing, given the age difference.
He was in eighth grade, so at most fourteen, and she was at least twenty-two at the time. She's also forgetful and ditzy-- Eriol says it himself, and my general impression from all of this is unreliability. She'll do what she needs to do, but sometimes she's inconsistent. But if it didn't, and Sakura and Syaoran didn't Sakura has a lot of time ahead of her, and Eriol might too. It's heavily implied in canon that Clow lived a very long life. This is touched on in xxxHOLiC as well, because Clow had a relationship with the Dimension Witch, Ichihara Yuuko, and she is still alive now, even though Clow seemed to have lived a very long time ago, judging by his casual dress.
Who's to say that Sakura-- and Eriol-- wouldn't live a very long time too? Sakura will have to prepare for her own Sakura Cards heir, and there is the question-- what would Eriol do for Spinelsun and Ruby Moon after he is gone? When their loved ones have passed away, it makes perfect sense for these two to come together, whether as simply friends or even more. In fact, since they are the only two in the world who know about their past, it would make sense for them to develop a deep relationship.
By this point, Sakura would be matured enough that Eriol wouldn't think of her as a child. It's also plausible for them to be together when they're still young, as long as Sakura were to mature. I think losing Syaoran would mature her greatly, because he spent a lot of time protecting her. She would learn that the world is a more complicated place. Is it plausible that they could throw away the fact that Eriol is practically Sakura's uncle? She doesn't seem to see him in a familial way.
It's definitely a friendship, even after he reveals his true identity. She does remark that he reminds her of her father , but psychology tells us that women seek out men like their fathers. And it's important to remember that they are not genetically related. Sakura is genetically related to her father, but not to Eriol. Plus, he reminds her of Yukito, and at this point she still has a crush on Yukito. They are Clow's reincarnates, not his clones. A reincarnate has his own DNA and looks different from his predecessor.
Eriol doesn't look exactly the same as Clow does. He has a different face shape and different eyes, among other things. A few people have asked me this question, and it's a hard question to answer. Part of it is tied up in my psyche, I'll admit. This 'ship satisfies me somewhere deep down, and I'm not sure why. But there are several other different reasons. They do flirt in the series, even if Eriol had a motivation behind it.
He didn't have to act the way he did. He could have ignored the whole Syaoran dynamic, but instead he decided to play with it. He is a gentleman and Sakura is clearly charmed by it. I ship them also because they compliment each other. Eriol is serious and Sakura is playful.
Eriol is slow to trust, Sakura is quick to love. I ship them because she is the princess, and once in a while the princess can end up with the court magician.
Life isn't always like a fairytale. I certainly believe those relationships are possible-- take a look through my fanfiction if you don't believe me-- but the deepness of their love is the deepness of a first love, and not a second chance. I'm a sucker for second chances. I also ship them because I ship alternate pairings. If I'm going to write fanfiction, I'm not going to limit myself to canon relationships-- hardly anyone ever does.
When I returned from my Livejournal hiatus in July , the sole reason was the 15pairings challenge. I felt confident that I could write 15 different pairings in the Cardcaptor Sakura fandom, and it would pass some time at work I don't really work very much, per se, but I'm certainly there often enough Something different would be fun. This was a real version of Sakura for me. She isn't all flowers and sunshine.
There really isn't any fandom for this pairing; I searched in vain for several months. Eventually I founded the eriolxsakura ship community, and I hope that it will become more active in the future. First of all, why not?
There are several great reasons and no really bad ones, except for the age difference. It takes skill, as well, to keep the characters in character. Why not get in on the ground floor of something new?
Why not step out of your comfort zone? Join me! Here's a short guide to the available fic and communities for the fandom. Eriol enjoys himself when using his magic to put Sakura in various situations. These situations can be anywhere from dangerous to being quite comical, such as when he put her in a pit filled with stuffed sheep. Eriol's life experience, with his access to Clow Reed's memories, means that he is significantly more knowledgeable and more mature than all his classmates.
He is skilled in basketball, cooking, academics, piano, and art. He is more literate in Japanese writing than Syaoran is, despite coming from a country that uses a completely different writing system. He quickly befriends Sakura, a feat which persuades Syaoran Li , who becomes both jealous and suspicious of Eriol, to postpone his return to Hong Kong.
It was quite obvious Eriol had bigger intentions towards Sakura. Watching Sakura- with kind eyes. Eriol also befriends Takashi Yamazaki and becomes his partner-in-crime, agreeing with whatever he makes up. He and Takashi respond to each other's cues perfectly together reinforce the supposed validity of their story by both appearing to have detailed knowledge of the subject, thwarting Chiharu 's usual efforts to dispel of the whole lie.
At the same time, a series of magical disasters force Sakura to gradually convert the Clow Cards into "Sakura Cards" or "Star Cards", which draw from her own magical energy rather than the dwindling amount of magic left in them by Clow Reed, although this had the drawback of causing Sakura to faint every time she transformed a Clow Card into a Sakura Card. What Sakura does not know until the series' end is that Eriol himself creates these situations.
During each situation, he is seen from afar observing the action, often accompanied by his guardians, Spinel Sun and Ruby Moon. All three of them live in a house that was formerly occupied by Clow Reed himself. Eventually, Eriol confronts Sakura and reveals himself to be the reincarnation of Clow Reed, creator of the Cards which leaves Sakura, Tomoyo, Kero and Syaoran stunned at the revelation.
He challenges Sakura to defeat him by converting the final Cards, The Light and The Dark, which would prevent Tomoeda from being permanently plunged into darkness. The sheer force causes Tomoyo to fall asleep while Syaoran barely manages to hold on with Sakura being the only one unaffected by the change. With his guardians occupying the attention of Sakura's own guardians, Yue and Cerberus , Eriol uses his magic to hinder Sakura.
Eventually she manages to convert Light and Dark with the help of Cerberus and Yue, who fused with Sakura's wand to make it more powerful, and Syaoran, who provided moral support and the confidence to endure, even though his attempt to aid her with his magic resulted in him passing out in the manga.
In the anime, Syaoran survives long enough to help Sakura change the Light and Dark Cards, breaking Eriol's spell once and for all. In the manga, after Sakura overcomes this final challenge, Eriol puts Sakura through one more task; he asks her to divide his power in half between himself and her father, Fujitaka Kinomoto , who is the other reincarnation of Clow Reed. This at last gives Eriol the one thing he has wanted his entire life: to no longer be the most powerful sorcerer in the world.
This wish was probably due to the consequences of Clow Reed's desire for Yuuko Ichihara to stay alive, which led to the events of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. No longer able to keep people away from the battle site using magic, Eriol invites everyone to his home where he explains his actions. Stating that the challenges were to give Sakura a reason to have to change the cards into Sakura Cards, which made it easier and safer for her to transform them then it would have been without a good reason.
At Eriol's house, it is revealed that he was working in conjunction with Kaho Mizuki , who he met during her travels in Europe, and when she was in college. He feels hurt that Clow forced him to go through the pain of having to choose another master and believes that Clow has been alive all along.
He's elegant and well-dressed, educated and clever. He's handy, intelligent and athletic; practically flawless. Except for his wicked sense of humor and his Machiavellian plans, I mean, but I digress. But of course, there's this corollary in canon that establishes all spectacle male characters must look alike, because there's a Good Reason for them to look like clones. Eriol is often compared in manga canon with Fujitaka Kinomoto, Sakura and Touya's father.
And it does make sense, but I'll get to that point later. Oh, and Eriol Hiiragizawa was a wizard. He has a staff Clow Reed's, actually , a pair of guardians, a ceremonial outfit and a strange flat hat. Since our lad is the antagonist, he's often thought by fandom as an Evil Guy. The creepy grin won't help to his image, I'm afraid. His personal manga plot holes are confusing.
However, he's not the cold-hearted bastard he appears to be. His mission is not entirely selfish, as I'll try to justify him a little. He honestly wants to help, believe it or not. Behind the smile The first time we get to see him and his guardians is mostly foreshadowing their silhouettes in anime, an obscure dream in manga. We know he means trouble, that's obvious. So there's no surprise we get to see he's a new fifth-grade student in Sakura's class. He quickly introduces himself to the Card Mistress: it's an encounter he had been waiting for his entire life; and they became friends.
Li Syaoran didn't like that one bit. And then the chaos is ensured. A lot of bizarre situations take place through the city, joined by Clow's presence. Eriol is behind it, and since he was Clow on his past life, his magic powers and memories were inherited by him. Because of that, the rest of the magical cast is deceived and think Clow is behind it. Which is somehow true, sure, but not accurate. And that's the plot for this arc: Eriol does things behind them, Sakura changes one or more cards with her powers to stop the anonymous force and the day is saved.
Sakura and her friends never suspect on the British guy, except maybe Touya. He infiltrates even more on her group of friends, and takes a chance whenever he can. But still, we get to know he doesn't like to see Sakura sad, which seems a contradiction in a villain. But remember, Eriol is not a villain or a bad guy. And then we get to the final battle.
Finally, he reveals to Sakura as the author of everything, the one who was Clow in his past life. He casts the biggest spell, and hides the sun and the moon, causing the entire city -well, not the entire thing, but almost- to sleep.
If he didn't pressure Sakura and went easy on her, she wouldn't be able to recover from the shock. So he and his guardians attacked them, so Sakura is unable to go easy on him. The answer for his challenge: she has to change The Light and the Dark in order to break the spell. And after she does An explanation over a cup of tea Like I already mentioned, Eriol is not evil at all.
His mission is not exactly a bed of roses, and he doesn't particularly enjoy other people's suffering. Alright, he's amused by the way persons around him think and behave, he gives unwanted advices just because he feels like it and he's always smiling in creepy satisfaction, but that's because he knows they're going to work it out and nobody gets hurt.
In episode 63 Sakura, the Pool, and the Big Wave he's concerned he could've make Rika Sasaki scared of swimming because his spell almost drowned her. In episode 64 Sakura and the Ski School Blizzard he stops the avalanche before it buries the ski lodge, and admits: "The thing I fear is causing you pain But I guess I can't help that, can I?
Then he feels genuinely sad and sorry when he realizes she had a fever, since he didn't know she was sick. Then he heals her, with a sweet expression in his face, and leaves her with his coat over her body.
Those are my arguments, from both canons, that show Eriol actually cares. And there's the real motif he went to Tomoeda in the first place. As the holder of Clow's memories, he knew the cards would be useless with the time. Their powers needed to match their new Master's.
The only one who could save and change them was Sakura. However, changing them just like that could be dangerous. That's why Eriol provoked everything: that way, the cards would change slowly and she could get progressively stronger. He had good and noble intentions, as you see; he truly wanted to help. And Sakura was thankful and forgive him. However, manga gives us a twist, and it turns out its Eriol had a favor to ask her.
